Eckehard Steinbach (IEEE M'96, SM'08) studied Electrical Engineering at the
University
of Karlsruhe (Germany), the University of Essex (Great-Britain),
and ESIEE in Paris. From 1994 - 2000 he was a member of the research
staff of the Image Communication Group at the University of
Erlangen-Nuremberg (Germany), where he received the Engineering
Doctorate in 1999. From February 2000 to December 2001 he was a
Postdoctoral Fellow with the Information Systems Laboratory of
Stanford University. In February 2002 he joined the Department
of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology of
Munich University of Technology (Germany), where he is currently
a Full Professor for Media Technology. His current research
interests are in the area of audio-visual-haptic information
processing and communication as well as networked and interactive
multimedia systems.
Dr. Steinbach served as a conference co-chair of "SPIE Visual Communications
and Image Processing (VCIP)" in San Jose, California, in 2001,
"Vision, Modeling and Visualization 2003 (VMV)" in Munich, in 2003, and
the "1st International Workshop on Mobile Video" held in
conjunction with ACM Multimedia 2007 in Augsburg, in 2007.
He has been a program vice co-chair of the Mobile Multimedia Systems
and Services Track at the IEEE International
Symposium on Multimedia (ISM'07) held in Taiwan in 2007. He was the
program co-chair for the systems track at ACM Multimedia 2009,
held in Beijing in October 2009. He has been a program co-chair for the
IEEE International Workshop on Multimedia Signal Processing held in
Saint-Malo, France, in October 2010. He is the general chair of the
Packet Video Workshop to be held in Munich in 2012.
He has been a guest editor of the Special Issue on Multimedia over IP and
Wireless Networks of the EURASIP Journal on Applied Signal Processing. He
has been a guest editor of the EURASIP Journal on Applied Signal
Processing Special Issue on Advanced Video Technologies and Applications
for H.264/AVC and Beyond. He has been a guest editor of the IEEE
Transactions on Multimedia Special Issue on Multimedia Applications in
Mobile/Wireless Context. From 2006-2009 Dr. Steinbach serves
as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Trans. on Circuits and Systems for
Video Technology (CSVT). From 2008-2011 Dr. Steinbach serves as a member of
the IEEE Multimedia and Signal Processing (MMSP) Technical Committee. In
March
2005 Dr. Steinbach has been appointed
as a Professor at the Chinesisch-Deutschen Hochschulkolleg (CDHK) at
Tongji University in Shanghai.
